System Design & Engineering

Nobody wants a system that trips at 7pm or a roof full of panels that never pays back. So we start with your actual load: a day-and-night consumption reading, a shading study, an inspection of your DB board and — for businesses — your three-phase supply, tariff and shift pattern. What comes back is a drawing, a month-by-month production simulation, and a fixed, itemised quote.

  • Site survey, load profile & shading analysis
  • Single-line diagram, string and voltage design
  • Month-by-month yield simulation, not a guess
  • Utility interconnection & net-metering paperwork

Supply, Installation & Commissioning

We supply the equipment and we install it ourselves — no drop-shipped cartons, no sub-contracted roofing. Aluminium rails bolted or ballasted with flashed, warranted penetrations; MC4 terminations; DC and AC isolation; surge protection; earth electrodes; then insulation and polarity testing before anything is energised.

  • Tier-1 PV modules, hybrid and grid-tie inverters
  • Roof mounting, flashings and structural checks
  • Cabling, isolation, SPDs, earthing and lightning protection
  • Commissioning report, as-built drawings, warranty filing

Who We Are

Solar Engineers —
Not Panel Resellers

SWEKAM Technologies Limited is a wholly Kenyan-owned solar PV contractor working out of Nairobi. We design, supply, install and maintain solar systems for homes in Kiambu, hotels in Nyeri, schools in Kakamega, factories along Mombasa Road and farms from Laikipia to Kwale.

We buy our own equipment, employ our own installers and put our own name on the commissioning certificate. That is why we can still answer the phone in year six — and why a fault never becomes an argument between a supplier and an installer, because both of them are us.

Sized on Your Real Load

We meter what you actually consume, then design to it. No brochure sizing.

Fixed, Itemised Quotes

Modules, inverters, cabling, labour and permits priced separately. No mid-job surprises.

Warranties That Are Filed

25-year panel performance, 5–10 years on inverters and batteries, registered to you.

Aftercare That Answers

5-year workmanship warranty and a service team that still picks up in year six.

Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything Kenyans ask us before going solar. Still unsure? We're one call away.

Talk to a real engineer 0729 611 386 swekamtechnologies@gmai.com
How much does a solar system cost in Kenya?

Two identical houses can differ by more than double, because one runs air conditioning and a water heater and the other does not. Cost follows your measured load, the battery capacity you need for backup, roof type and cable run. That is why we quote only after the site survey: you get a written, itemised figure covering modules, inverter, batteries, mounting, cabling, protection, labour and commissioning — no surprise charges later. Call 0729 611 386 for an indicative range for your building.

How much will I actually save?

Most homes and shops that consume power during daylight remove the majority of their daytime import — and businesses running day shifts see the fastest payback because their load and the sun are awake at the same time. Backup batteries cost more and pay back more slowly, so we model your specific tariff and consumption and show you the number we will be judged on, rather than a slogan.

Do I need batteries?

Only if you need power after sunset or during an outage. A grid-tied array without batteries is the cheapest per unit of energy and is usually the right call for a factory that trades by day. A hybrid system with LiFePO₄ storage is the right call for a home that cannot lose the fridge, Wi-Fi and lighting, or for a clinic or school. We will happily talk you out of batteries you do not need.

What is net metering, and can I use it?

Net metering lets the surplus you generate during the day run your meter backwards instead of being wasted, so you bank it against evening consumption. Your distribution company approves the interconnection and installs a bi-directional meter; eligibility depends on your tariff and transformer capacity. We prepare and submit the application, and where net metering is not yet available for your supply we design a zero-export or battery-first system instead.

Will solar work with my existing wiring and DB board?

Usually yes, but the board has to be inspected before anyone promises that. We check the main switch, breakers, RCD sensitivity, earthing and whether your supply is single- or three-phase — and if the board needs upgrading, that work appears in the quote up front, not after the scaffolding is up. Every system we hand over has proper DC and AC isolation and surge protection.

How long do panels, inverters and batteries last?

Quality modules are warranted for 25 years of output performance and commonly outlast that. Hybrid inverters typically carry 5–10 years, and LiFePO₄ battery banks are rated for thousands of cycles — roughly 10 years of daily use. We size for the weakest link, stock common spares in Nairobi, and register every serial number so warranty claims are our problem, not yours.

Is my roof suitable? What if it isn't?

Concrete slabs, box-profile and tile roofs all work; what matters is orientation, shading, purlin and slab condition, and safe access for the install and for future cleaning. If the structure is tired or the roof is badly shaded, we will say so and propose a ground mount or carport instead — panels on a weak roof are a liability, not a saving.

Can solar run factory machines, welding sets and irrigation pumps?

Yes, when the design respects motor inrush. Motors, compressors and welders draw several times their rated current on start-up, so we look at soft starters or VFDs, size inverter headroom accordingly, and split heavy loads onto the grid where that is cheaper than a battery the size of a wardrobe. For irrigation we size pump, controller and array together so the tank fills on sunlight alone.

What happens on a cloudy day or at night?

At night a grid-tied system steps aside and the grid feeds you; a hybrid system draws from batteries and then from the grid or generator automatically. We design against your worst month, not the prettiest December day, so rainy-season production is already in the numbers we quote you.

Do you offer staged payments and VAT invoices?

Yes. Payments are structured against milestones — deposit on order, balance on delivery, and a final tranche after commissioning and testing. Businesses and institutions receive a proper VAT invoice, serial numbers and a fixed-asset schedule for their accounts. We service systems we did not install too, so if your existing array is underperforming, call us anyway.
